Before and after the attack

He went to St George’s Hospital in Tooting where he underwent emergency surgery on his jaw which was broken in two places.

Just days before, on Friday, November 22, his mum said she had kept him off school and went in to discuss with a member of staff that he was being bullied.

The boy’s mother, who asked not to be named, said: "Within two hours of going back to school his jaw was broken. It is appalling. He doesn’t want to go back.

"He’s very traumatised and his confidence is very low - it has impacted him on a psychological level quite a bit.

"The school hasn’t offered us any support, it hasn’t done anything. They say they’ve offered support but no-one’s been round to discuss things with us or anything like that.

"They’ve not asked how he is, put me in touch with a counsellor or said anything about [his] future schooling. They should be helping build his confidence.

"He’s had to have two metal plates in his jaw and he’s lost a tooth. He’s going to have to have further operations when he’s older as well because he’s not finished growing yet."

A spokesperson for Overton Grange said: "There has been an incident in our school between two pupils. The school has taken appropriate action and is also offering support to the families concerned."

A police spokesperson said: "A boy, aged 13, was arrested on suspicion of GBH on Tuesday, November 26, following a report of an assault on a 12-year-old boy on Monday, November 25. The 13-year-old has been bailed to return pending further enquiries."
