The Labour party has revealed its candidate to take on Liberal Democrat MP Tom Brake in Carshalton and Wallington.
Art and design teacher Siobhan Tate, who lives in Islington, has branded Mr Brake a Tory and has pledged to be an MP people can trust if she is voted in at the next election in 2015.
The married mum-of-three said: "According to Brake, ‘elections here in Sutton are between the Lib Dems and Tories’. Not any more. Vote Tom, get Tory.
"Voters here need an MP they can trust, who will stand by her promises, and work hard for their interests, to give a voice to those without power. I will be that MP.
"We have to campaign to stop the stealth-privatisation of our community infrastructure, especially our health and education services and to stop the narrative of hatred against the vulnerable in measures such the bedroom tax."
Mrs Tate is a subject leader for art and design at Bridge Academy in Hackney, where she has worked since 2011.
She has an MA from the Institute of Education for her research into art and design and helped her husband set up a new business that now employs 10 people.
Tom Brake was elected as MP for Carshalton and Wallington in the 2010 general election with 48.3 per cent of the vote (22,180 votes). His closest challenger was Conserative Ken Andrew with 36.8 per cent (16,920 votes). Labour's Shafi Khan came third with 8.7 per cent (4,015 votes).
