The final member of a gang of Crystal Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion-supporting football hooligans to admit his part in a mass brawl has been spared jail.

Wallington man Robert Carl, 45, is the last of nine men to admit his part in a fight that broke out after supporters of the two rival clubs met at a pub in central London in November 2012 following games against separate teams.

Carl, of Woodcote Road, was sentenced to eight months in prison suspended for 18 months, banned from football matches for three years and ordered to pay a £100 fine at Blackfriars Crown Court on Tuesday, December 17 after admitting violent disorder at an earlier hearing.

A group of Crystal Palace fans had been to watch the Eagles play at Peterborough and the Brighton fans had been watching their side play at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, November 10, 2012.

The group of Palace fans arrived on the train into Kings Cross and made their way to two pubs in Caledonian Road. The Brighton fans arrived into Euston at a similar time and made their way to the same pubs.

Up to 60 fans squared off against each other in what police believe was an organised fight.

A first just two officers were on the scene as the fighting started but the situation quickly escalated with glasses, litter bins and newspaper display boards being thrown.

The group dispersed when they heard sirens arriving but police managed to arrest 20 men, 12 of winch were charged with violent disorder. Nine of those have now pleaded guilty with three being acquitted.

Declan Clarke, 22, of Miles Road, Epsom, Hayden Johnson, 20, of Jesmond Road, Addiscombe, Croydon, Adam Marshall, 23, of Aston Way, Epsom and Dean Kirby, 29, of West Park Road, Lingfield, were found guilty of violent disorder on Friday, December 13, at Blackfriars Crown Court and has been remanded in custody until January 21 for sentencing.

James Hackett, 21, of Norbury Avenue, Thornton Heath, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing. He was remanded in custody and will appear alongside Kirby, Clarke, Johnson and Marshall for sentencing on 20 January 2014.

Philip Blackman, 33, of Luxford Road, Crowborough, East Sussex, Paul Zammit, 46, of Newland Road, Worthing, East Sussex and Richard Kepner, 46, of Church Lane Arundal, West Sussex, all pleaded guilty to violent disorder in November and have been given varying prison sentences.
