Luii Duncan was left with serious burns after falling on the discarded barbecue

  • A toddler was left with serious burns after falling on a discarded barbecue in Beddington Park. Two-and-a-half-year-old Luii Duncan fell on the smouldering coals while partying with friends and had to be pulled off by her parents and their friends after being doused with water.

  • A missing 4ft python had to be coaxed out from under a shed by a man after he found his cat toying with it. Wayne Savage, of Wellbeck Road, Sutton, saw Smudge the cat playing with the snake in his garden before it slithered under the nearby shed.

August

  • An axeman made off with over £20,000 after breaking into a travel agents and waiting for staff to arrive. The robber, described as 6ft and wearing a boiler suit and dark trainers, threatened staff at Thomas Cook in Wallington Square, Wallington, before looting the shop’s bureau de change.

Paul Jackson and Zeus

  • A guard dog saved the day after a house party was gatecrashed by looters after it was advertised on Facebook. Zeus, the guard dog at the Hamptons estate in Worcester Park, scared off the gang that had raided the party and hurled missiles at police.

  • A man who exposed his genitals to a 17-year-old girl was caught after his victim took a photo of him in the act. James Gathercole, 28, of Blanchland Road, Morden, has since pleaded guilty to exposure and was jailed for four months.

  • Traffic officer PC Andrew Duncan was killed when he was hit by a car he tried to stop during a traffic patrol on Reigate Avenue, Sutton. PC Duncan who was described as "a fantastic husband, father, son and brother", was thrown 35 meters down the road from the impact.

Lauren Lambert won Britain and Ireland's next top model

  • Hit TV show Britain and Ireland’s next top model was won by Lauren Lambert, who says that Wallington will always be her home. Miss Lambert appeared on women’s magazine Company and has her face on the packaging from Revlon styling products after winning the show.

  • A thug who left a young man fighting for his life after he bludgeoned him with a meat cleaver pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm. Jack Smith, 23, of Glastonbury Road, Morden, made a last minute guilty plea at Croydon Crown Court. He was later jailed for 21 years. Smith, along with his accomplice Barry Hughes, attacked Matthew Jeeves on the way home from a New Year's Eve party on January 1, 2008.
