Families in Carshalton were hit by power cuts during the festive season.

Christmas roasts went uncooked and the elderly had to leave their homes due to the cold.

Carshalton residents on Twitter have reported having no electricity on Christmas Day and being told power would be restored today.

UK Power Networks tweeted yesterday saying more engineers arrived on site just after 5.30pm.

A spokesperson said: “Engineers are today continuing to repair overhead power lines which were damaged in Monday’s storm. Crews have been moved south from the East of England to help the local teams with complex repairs, which will continue until all supplies are restored.

“When the high winds struck, power was initially interrupted to more than 300,000 customers, but engineers quickly restored supplies to most and the East of England was back to normal by Christmas Day.”

The latest figures reveal that 680 customers in Surrey are without power.
