Unemployment falls to lowest level in three years
The Office For National Statistics' figures, released on December 18, show 1,519 people in Carshalton and Wallington were claiming job seekers' allowance (JSA) in November - 84 fewer than the previous month and 510 fewer than November 2013.
Only three per cent of the working age population in Carshalton receive JSA compared to a London average of 4.1 per cent and the national rate of 3.9 per cent.
Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake said: "I am very pleased with the news, as behind those numbers is a story of more and more local people in jobs.
"As the economic recovery continues, locally and nationally, employers are recruiting more and more people.
"Of course we’re far from finished and cannot allow complacency, but I am proud, as this recovery has only been possible because we’ve stuck to our sound economic plan."
Youth unemployment has also fallen to 360, 150 fewer than in November 2012.
