As panto season draws to a close one theatre company is promising a spectacular performance of Cinderella in celebration of their 50th anniversary.

Expect all the glitz and glamour of panto, a sprinkling of fairytale magic and prepare to boo and hiss at Cinderella’s evil stepmother in Carshalton Pantomime Company’s adaptation of the classic story.

Your Local Guardian:

The panto follows the traditional tale of Cinderella, a young woman living under the thumb of her cruel stepmother, but includes twists and turns characteristic of the Carshalton Pantomime Company.

Producer David Barnfather has been with the company for 49 years and said: “We’ve been rehearsing since September – they’ve been going well.

“The audience can expect a traditional pantomime with the ugly sisters. There will be lots of colour, spectacular and special effects.

“There’s a marvellous coach and horses that’s never been seen in this area – it’s all going to be technical.

"It will be something to make the mind boggle – we hope. There’s a lot of audience participation.

“We use quite a few technical things. Our cast is made up of mixed age groups. We have one small set of dancers – the youngest one is five-ish. We go up to people in their late 60s to 70s.”

Despite performing for 50 years this is only the fifth time the company has performed Cinderella.

The 48-member cast will include all the well known characters such as Buttons, the Fairy Godmother, Prince Charming and not forgetting the Ugly Sisters.

Behind the vibrant sets, glamorous costumes, the music, and laughter, Carshalton Pantomime Company also has a serious aim – to raise much needed funds for local charities.
