Ten people needed treatment after a fire started in a prison cell last night.
An Epsom firefighter said they were called to the fire at High Down Prison, in High Down Lane, on the border of Sutton and Banstead, at 10.50pm on January 5.
They extinguished the fire but two members of staff and eight prisoners needed oxygen after inhaling smoke and two prisoners were given first aid.
He said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire and that the firemen were on the scene for two hours.
