Three development plans for greenbelt land in and around Cobham will be discussed at a public meeting.

Set up by the Cobham Conservation and Heritage Trust, Cobham and Downside Residents’ Association and Cobham Chamber of Commerce, the meeting will allow people to give views.

Developers have submitted plans to build 500 homes and a secondary school at Chippings Farm, off Portsmouth Road, while an appeal has been lodged against the refusal of a waste incinerator in Redhill Road.

In Wisley, plans have been submitted to build housing on the airfield, which is about three miles south of Cobham town centre.

A letter sent to residents and businesses in Cobham warned that plans for 2,600 homes, along with a school and waste incinerator, would have a “dramatic effect” on roads, travel, waste, sewage and water and local services.

Sue Kilpatrick, chairman of the Cobham and Downside Residents’ Association, said: “The greenbelt issues in and around Cobham should be of considerable concern to those who live here and work here.

“We do really want to know what people’s opinions are on all of these issues and in particular, of the plans for the school at 500 houses. We want to get as many people together as possible and hear their views.

“I think it is really important they do. If you want your voice heard, whichever way, I think they really should come and express their view and hear what is said.”

The meeting takes place at Cobham Village Hall, Lushington Drive, on Wednesday, January 22, at 8pm.
