Even Santa could not escape the recent bad weather as high winds battered Cheam’s much loved sleigh.
Old Nick was shocked to discover serious damage to the front and back of the sleigh, with parts of the side panels completely torn away.
Cheam Rotary, who organise the sleigh, have already started repairs which are estimated to cost up to £1,000.
The sleigh has been a regular feature of the festive period in Cheam and Sutton for the last 48 years. The familiar float can be seen touring the area in the weeks before Christmas taking donations for local charities.
Next month Cheam Rotary are planning to hand over £11,000 to local charities raised by the sleigh and collections in North Cheam Sainsbury's.
The Rotary is now hoping to find a new sponsor who can ensure that Santa can continue the good work next Christmas.
