The United Nations has extended the contract of a Weybridge company that modifies vehicles for people working in war zones and other dangerous places.

To celebrate the news, Philip Hammond, Defence Secretary and MP for Runnymede and Weybridge, visited Jankel on Friday, January 17, to recognise the company’s passion and commitment to protecting people who risk their lives for their country.

Jankel is one of a handful of companies providing vehicle conversions, electrical integration and specialist trailers to government agencies.

The company had previously worked with the United Nations, with the new contract a three-year extension, and also provides support outside of the military circle.

Last month, Jankel signed a contract to supply high mobility vehicles to forces in Africa which are working to safeguard elephants and rhinos from poachers.

Mike Mullen, managing director of Jankel, said his employees were proud of the job they do, knowing they help to save lives of people doing tough jobs in dangerous situations.

Speaking after Mr Hammond’s visit, Mr Mullen said: “He was extremely knowledgeable and proud to know that in a corner of his own constituency, a company is working tirelessly to protect people operating in volatile environments to make the world a better place.

“Protection is everything and everyone who works at Jankel takes huge pride in knowing their job is making a difference.”
