For all we are now hearing from the government about economic recovery, the cuts to local services are continuing to harm some of our most vulnerable neighbours.

One such group is people with disabilities.

The withdrawal of skills classes in Sutton for young people with disabilities takes away valuable opportunities.

For some of those who attend such courses, they are the only opportunity to spend time with their peers and a vital chance to develop their independence.

For carers they can offer an important period of respite. These courses can also have benefits for the economy, helping provide a route into employment and reducing reliance on carers.

The closure of such facilities are further evidence of the government and council having a short term outlook and failing to invest in people.
