Friends and family have remembered a 22-year-old McLaren worker who died in a sports car crash outside the Formula 1 team’s headquarters.

Former Glenthorne High School pupil Ollie Bourton was in a blue Subaru Impreza with his friend and colleague, Darren Hayes, 19, during the fatal collision with a transit van, on Wednesday, in Woking.

He also attended Brooklands College in Weybridge.

Sutton Guardian:

Friends, family and colleagues laid flowers at the McLaren headquarters yesterday.

His parents Martin and Susan Bourton left a floral tribute at the scene which said: “To our darling Oliver our number one son, we will cherish you in our hearts until we are together again.”

His younger brother James wrote: “You have left a massive hole in my heart. Your adoring brother James.”

Mr Bourton’s uncle and aunt Alvin and Paula wrote: “We love you so much and you will always be in our hearts. Life is so cruel but heaven has gained an awesome angel. Life will never be the same without you.”

Ollie’s girlfriend Rachel Carter, from Sutton, tweeted the day after his death and said: “Why is life so unfair x Rest in peace @OllieBourton1 my darling life is not going to be the same without you. Missing you so much already.”

The driver of the Ford Transit, a man in his 60s, was taken to St George’s Hospital, in Tooting, with serious injuries.
