Detectives have arrested a man in connection with their investigation of a rape at a flat  in the Benhilton area of Sutton last month.

The 38-year-old man was arrested on Thursday, 30 January and taken into custody at a police station where he was later bailed pending further enquiries, police revealed last night.

The incident happened during the evening of Saturday, 11 January and the suspect claimed to work for Sutton Council before attacking the woman.

Detectives from the Sexual Offences Exploitation and Child Abuse Command continue their investigation and continue to appeal for witnesses and information.

The suspect is described as a black man, aged about 40 years old and 5ft 4ins.

He had a round face and bald head. He was wearing a blue round necked fleece-type jumper with a red or orange logo on the breast, police said.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who had a visit from a man matching this description or who believe they may know who he is.
