An MP is calling on Boris Johnson to make a bus service run 24 hours between Sutton and Croydon.

Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake wants to extend Sutton’s 154 bus service to 24 hours a day or bring back the N213 night bus.

London Mayor Boris Johnson

The mayor recently announced plans for a 24-hour tube service at weekends from 2015 but Mr Brake wants more to be done.

The former night bus serving Carshalton and Wallington, the N213, was withdrawn in 2009 after Transport for London concluded it attracted too few users.

But since then Mr Brake’s constituents have regularly contacted him requesting later journeys between Croydon and Sutton.

He said: “The lack of night time transport services in Carshalton and Wallington particularly affects those working in or participating in the night time economy.”

“Without a night bus, the safety of night-time travellers is compromised as they are forced to walk in the middle of the night or use illegal minicabs.

Extending the 154 service into a 24 hour route would have a beneficial impact upon the safety of night clubbers and shift workers alike.”
