It is great to see that Croydon is benefiting from the nationwide fall in unemployment.
But living in the North of the borough, I am particularly pleased to see that this benefit is not just focused on the town centre.
Over the last four years, unemployment in the Croydon North constituency has fallen by 20 per cent, while youth unemployment has fallen by 30 per cent.
Getting our young people into work is key to tackling a number of the problems that have plagued the north of the borough for many years (such as crime and disorder) and demonstrating that if you want to get out and work to better yourself, that opportunity is there.
This message is particularly important in areas such as South Norwood and Thornton Heath, where all too often young people have not believed this option to be available to them.
I believe the recent figures show that this attitude is beginning to change.
I hope that the emerging recovery will continue to benefit Croydon as a whole and see the north of the borough continuing on an upward trend.
Jonathan Cope; Auckland Road, South Norwood
