Leatherhead escaped the worst of the floods at the weekend but it may be hit again later this week.

The level of the River Mole in the towm was 2.05 metres at 4.30am today, well within the typical range, but more rain is on the way.

The Met Office has issued a rain warning for Surrey with showers forecast throughout the week in Leatherhead before heavy rain returns on Friday night.

Of the weekend, Andrea Norbury, from Thorncroft Stables in Leatherhead, said: "It was not as bad as before, but flood water still went through most of the stables.

"We have evacuated. I’m self-destructing, I keep clearing up and it keeps flooding. We have got so much clearing up to do."

Nik Cookson, from Thorncroft Drive, said: "Water was under the floorboards, but it was not over the actual boards themselves. It’s been quite high but not that high."

The Met Office warning said: "Further spells of rain, heavy at times, and accompanied by strong winds are expected during Monday night and Tuesday. The public should be aware of the risk of further disruption due to flooding."

A flood alert for the River Mole said: "River levels have fallen between Sidlow and Leatherhead and are back to normal winter levels. There may still be standing water in low lying areas and near to the river.

"The forecast is for showers on Tuesday and heavier rain on Wednesday and this could see a return to high river levels."

Communities along the Thames, particularly in Surrey, are being warned to expect further severe property flooding today and into Tuesday.

Fourteen severe flood warnings are in place along the River Thames from Datchet to Shepperton Green, including Chertsey, as extremely high river levels continue to rise.
