As flooded homes along the rising River Thames are being evacuated, properties next to the Mole remain out of danger for now.
Fourteen severe flood warnings – meaning lives are at risk – have been issued in Surrey and Berkshire on the Thames affecting thousands of homes.
Weather warnings are calling on people in Surrey to beware of more rain and gales due to hit tomorrow afternoon, which could disrupt transport and power supplies.
At 7.30am today in Leatherhead the level of the River Mole stood at 1.79 metres, well within the typical range for this location. No flood warning is currently in place.
A Met Office warning affecting Surrey this afternoon said: “Further spells of rain, heavy at times, and accompanied by strong winds and coastal gales, are expected during Monday night and into Tuesday morning. “The rain should clear eastwards by around the middle of Tuesday. The public should be aware of the risk of further disruption due to flooding.”
Warnings for tomorrow said swathes of gales are expected and more rain, heavy in places, could cause flooding.
The wind warning said: “A vigorous area of low pressure is expected to move northeastwards across the UK later on Wednesday, clearing eastwards early on Thursday.
“This is likely to be accompanied by a swathe of gales across many parts of England and Wales which may be severe in places. The public should be aware of the risk of disruption to transport and possibly also power supplies.”
