A student hit by a car outside his college on Thursday has been discharged from hospital.

The Nescot teenager who was hit on Reigate Road, Ewell, near the college just before 12.40pm was rushed to St George’s Hospital in Tooting with head, leg and neck injuries.

By Friday he was in a stable condition and the college today confirmed that he had been discharged from hospital the following day.

The college gave counselling to fellow students who helped at the scene in Reigate Road near Nescot College in Ewell on Thursday.

A Nescot spokeswoman said: "He was discharged on Saturday, but we won’t be releasing further details on his condition at this stage."

She said their staff, including an on-site nurse, had been supporting students in the aftermath of the crash.

She said: "Students who provided medical or other assistance at the scene have been seen by the college nurse and referred to our counselling team.

"They will also be formally recognised by the principal for their help. We have also been addressing the issue of road safety with our students through tutorials and our intranet, and will reinforce this through the college newsletter.

"Our staff were on the scene immediately, with one of our trained first aiders giving the student emergency first aid."

An air ambulance and South East Surrey Air Ambulance Service also attended the accident and took the student to hospital.

A reader commented on the Epsom Guardian website that groups of students often traipse across the road without looking out for traffic.

The post said: "Visibility is very poor in this murky grey weather, and pedestrians need to take better care. I hope the individual concerned is OK."
