In regard to your article about what your paper itself describes as a “stunt” an amazing thing has happened in the political world.

On Twitter and it appears on your own comments page agreement between UKIP in Sutton and the Conservatives and indeed the Labour party all have agreed that this uncosted and meaningless ‘stunt’ is a concerning matter.

Of course there are differing views on what it is there to achieve or otherwise, but the tenet of the objections are agreed, what a waste of time and money.

The objective is not clear and no objective means of testing the stunt has been given.

The council state the worrying figure of £4m is spent in clearing “street” litter but includes fly tipping in this figure.

Sutton Council, on Twitter, could not or would not give a break down on this figure nor of the cost of the stunt saying that it is within existing costs.

In UKIP Sutton’s opinion the Liberal Democrats are using public money on a pretext to show off their fading green credentials.

Anyone would think that there is an election looming.

Further, has anyone noticed the addition £2m spend on local services ahead of the election. This is truly shocking as the cynic in me questions why it is all happening.

Bill Main-Ian; Parliamentary candidate (UKIP) for Carshalton & Wallington
