A dad who used his son's blue badge to park in disabled spaces even when he was on his own has been warned in court.

Sutton man Sidney Oliveria twice parked in disabled bays with his son's blue badge showing when his son was not with him in April and May last year.

Oliveria of Strathearn Road, admitted two counts of fraud at Croydon Crown Court on February 11 and was given a 12 month conditional discharge.

It menas he will not face further punishment unless he commits another offence.

Any drivers contemplating committing similar offences have been warned by Sutton Council they will face prosecution if they are caught.

Councillor Jill Whitehead said: "People who misuse the blue badge scheme are cheating the vast majority of road users who play fair when they park their cars.

"The council’s parking team is clamping down on this fraud which is both a crime and discredits an important scheme set up to help some of our most vulnerable residents.

"We encourage anyone witnessing blue badge fraud to please report the incident in complete confidence to the council."

Blue badges are only for the use of the person named on them and can only be displayed if that person is driving or travelling in that car.
