After heavy wind and strong winds at the weekend, there is now a glimmer of hope for weary flood victims.

Up to 70mph gusts of wind brought down trees across Surrey and the level of the River Mole hit 2.8m in Leatherhead on Saturday.

But there is no longer a flood alert for the river, which is within its banks and had fallen to 1.74m by 10.30am today, and there are no more severe weather warnings on the horizon.

Light rain is expected later today as well as a short burst of heavy rain tonight and more rain tomorrow.

Last night a flood alert said: "River levels are continuing to fall. River levels remain high around Cobham, but will fall within banks later this evening.

"Levels along the rest of the Mole catchment are now in bank and further flooding of low lying land is not expected. Some standing water may remain.

"Scattered showers are forecast overnight and through tomorrow, though this is not expected to cause further flooding.

"The river remains sensitive to significant rainfall due to the saturated nature of the catchment."
