A fire service command vehicle has been taken off the road pending an investigation into a suspected carbon monoxide poisoning incident.

Concerns were raised after firefighters were taken unwell while working out of the vehicle in flood-hit Chertsey on Monday, February 10.

Three Leatherhead crew members went to hospital after working in a mobile Incident Command Unit (ICU) parked at Chertsey fire station.

The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has raised concerns about the safety of the ICU.

Surrey Fire and Rescue have declined to comment on whether carbon monoxide was found in the firefighters’ bloodstream and if an onboard alarm sounded.

A spokesman said: "We are putting the investigation on hold until the flooding major incident is over, and with the FBU's agreement the vehicle is off the run until further notice while this is carried out.

"We therefore have nothing further to say at this time."
