Epsom’s infamous bucket once again took pride of place in the entrance to the town’s redeveloped station last week.

The bucket was placed inside the entrance of Epsom station to catch water dripping from the ceiling during heavy rain last Tuesday.

Last month, when the same problem surfaced and puddles of water built up around the bucket, a spokesman for Southern trains, which runs the station, insisted it was not a leak.

He said the issue was caused by guttering outside becoming blocked by debris from rain and a cherry picker crane would be arriving to clear it.

But when the Epsom Guardian asked Southern this week why it had happened again and when a long-term solution would be found, the spokesman said: "Responsibility to address the issue is with the developer, Solum and Network Rail, further tests are being carried out to establish the cause.

"Remedial works have taken place twice over the last couple of months, but it appears that the problem has still not been resolved.

"We are in contact with Solum/Network Rail and Kier Construction to have this resolved as a priority and would like to apologise to our passengers for any inconvenience while the problem continues."

Epsom’s business development manager Adam Worley said the bucket was "not ideal as part of the welcoming experience of Epsom".

But he added: "It does appear that they are trying to resolve it and hopefully it will resolved quickly and efficiently."

A £20m redevelopment of Epsom station was completed last year which revamped the station’s ticket hall, facade, car park, waiting shelters, toilets and cycle storage.
