A tomcat has died after being shot in the head in a "callous attack".

A member of the public found the cat staggering around with blood coming out of its ears in the Greenway, Epsom, last Thursday, February 13.

The tabby and white cat was taken to a vet but his injuries were fatal injuries and he had to be put down to end his sufferng. The RSPCA is appealing for help after failing to trace its owner.

RSPCA inspector Maxine Jones said: "This poor cat had clearly been targeted in this callous attack.

He would have suffered a great deal and sadly could not be saved. This was such a waste of a life.

"We urge anyone with any information about what happened to come forward and let us know, in complete confidence.

"Also, we have been unable to trace the owner because the cat was not microchipped which means there could be a very anxious cat lover out there who has no idea what happened to their poor pet."

Anyone with information should call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
