Calls for greater safety measures in a Cheam street have intensified after a man was knocked down this morning.
Police and paramedics were called a zebra crossing in Malden Road near the junction with Chatsworth Road after a pedestrian was knocked down by a car at 8.11am.
The 45-year-old suffered injuries to his legs but they are not believed to be life threatening or life changing.
Neighbours living in the area started a petition to Sutton Council calling for traffic lights to be installed at the crossing after a 12-year-old girl was knocked down there before Christmas.
Malden Road mum Anna Williamson said: "It's only a matter of time before someone is killed there.
"My husband wears a high-vis jacket when he walks the dog and I've nearly been knocked down there.
"Now there's police and ambulances there again. There are hundreds of Cheam High School children there every day. At some point someone is going to die there unless something is done."
Cheam Councillor Mary Burstow said the council is applying to Transport for London to get fundiing for a pelican crossing on the site.
She added: "The council is storming on ahead with this and this accident reinforces the need for changes.
"We still need people to remember that, although this is a main road, it is in a residential area near three schools and it is important people watch their speed."
