Detectives have released a computer-generated image of a mugger who took part in a "horrific" attack on a pedestrian.

A mugger asked a man in his 20s for directions while he was walking along Chalk Lane, Epsom, on December 19 at 8.20pm.

As the victim used his photo to look up the route, an accomplice wielded an object and knocked him over.

He fought back and a struggle ensued. The muggers stole his headphones, fled the scene and left him with bruises and cuts on his face and hands.

The e-fit released by police shows a clean shaven black offender who is 5ft 5in, in his mid-20s to early 30s and of medium build.

Detective Constable Colin Snell said: "I would appeal to anyone who thinks they can identify the man in the e-fit to contact officers with information as we need to find those responsible for this horrific attack."

Anyone with information should call Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference 45130007867, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
