Two cyclists from Walton will embark on a nine-day journey through the Pryanees mountains for Macmillan Cancer Care.

Dean Beckett and Martin Wells will set off from Walton on April 12 and ride 940 miles before arriving in Barcelona on April 20.

The pair hope to raise £30,000 and ride in memory of Mr Beckett’s father, Ronnie, who lost his battle with cancer in November.

Mr Beckett said: “Macmillan gave me and my family amazing support throughout dad’s illness and none of us knows when we might need to call on their services. I just wanted to give Macmillan something back to say a massive thank you.”

The cyclists, who have named their challenge the Ronnie Remembrance Ride, have incorporated part of the Olympic route at Boxhill in their training programme to help prepare for mountain climbs.

Mr Wells said: “We are so lucky to be living on the famous Olympic cycle route. We were truly inspired by the races that have travelled through Surrey and decided to put our enthusiasm for cycling to good use.”
