More than 200 motorists were stopped as police cracked down on people driving without insurance on Tuesday.

Two of those drivers were arrested - one for possession of drugs and another who was wanted on a warrant - and several were given fines or summonsed to court for a variety of motoring offences.

The clamp down was part of a London-wide initiative called Operation Cubo.

The borough's officers set up several roadside checkpoints and used number plate recognition cameras to target law-breaking drivers.

Inspector Ian Hicks led the operation. He said: "This operation and others like it are all about catching criminals, deterring criminal activities and keeping the streets safe.

"These operations will continue and you will be caught if you don't have insurance or the correct insurance."
