A scientist from Wallington has been invited to present his research to MPs in Parliament.

Jonathan Burns, 29, a researcher at University College London, will have his work with DNA to engineer nano-sized structures for anti-cancer therapies and diagnostics viewed by a panel of experts and politicians on March 17th.

Mr Burns entered his work in the SET for Britain poster competition, which offers a cash prize for innovative scientific work by new researchers.

His work was chosen from hundreds of applicants and will compete against dozens of other shortlisted scientist’s research for a gold, silver or bronze medal.

The gold medalist receives £3,000, while silver and bronze receive £2,000 and £1,000 respectively.

On presenting his science in Parliament, he said: “I decided to take part in SET for Britain to show MPs the exciting work I’m involved in, but also to ensure that MPs understand the importance of maintaining and increasing the scientific funds available to researchers.”
