A group of young campaigners met MP Tom Brake as part of their campaign to lower the voting age to 16.

Sean Goulding, 15, Nathan Coe, 15, Mark Duggan, 14 and Andrew Boakes, 14 from Carshalton Boys Sports College first began the Team 16 campaign as part of their citizenship coursework, before discovering their passion for the cause.

They have since had their campaign endorsed by MP for Carshalton and Wallington, Tom Brake.

Mr Brake was keen to advice Team 16 and suggested holding a mock election at their school, with an aim of 60 per cent participation, as a way to show the willingness of young people to engage in politics.

Sean said: "We believe it is about time young people had the right to voice their opinion."

Mr Brake added: "I really do admire the determination of the boys, I fully support their call for the voting age to be lowered to 16.

"We must encourage young people to engage with politics not dismiss them. Their voice is equally as important as any other and must be heard."
