Firefighters were called to a bin fire in Thicket Road – the latest in a spate of incidents.

A spokesperson at Sutton fire station said crews were called to Thicket Road at 11.45pm last night to reports a wheelie bin was on fire outside Birch Court.

When they arrived at the scene there was nobody there and they spent 20 minutes putting the fire out and making the area safe.

The spokesperson said it appeared the fire was deliberate and it had been one of about five such incidents in that area in the last month alone.

The most recent was the night before on Benhill Avenue.

He said: “There has been a spate of arson in that road.

“We informed police.”

Firefighters used one hose reel to put out the small fire on Friday, March 7.
