She is already a hit in Norway, now singer-songwriter Abi F Jones could become a household name here with the release of her debut single.

Burn It Up by Jones, 21, from Caenwood Road, Ashtead, will be played for the first time on BBC2 on April 7.

Jones who studied at Therfield School, Leatherhead, is no stranger to the limelight in Norway and has also written a song for a Coca Cola ad.

A few years ago she teamed up with Norwegian artist Jack Rubinacci for a duet, One Night Symphony, which reached number 14 in the Norwegian charts.

She said: "He flew over to England from Norway to write with me. The song turned out to be great and we gave it a big push in Norway and it did really well!

"We are planning more writing sessions this year and I go out to Norway regularly to gig and to shoot my new music videos."

She has also written a song for Coca Cola’s online advertising campaigned called 52 Songs of Happiness which featured songs from artists across the globe.

She said: "I wrote and recorded the song in under two hours and it's called Treetops."

Jones comes from a musical family - her mother is a professional opera singer and her father is a multi-instrumentalist.

She said: "I have always been singing and inherited my talents from my opera singing mother Jayne Whitaker who has just performed in the fantastic La Boheme at the Royal Albert Hall."

Since the age of 10, she has written her own material and has been inspired by strong female singers Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Cristina Aguilera, Alicia Keys and Beyonce.
