A man chased two burglars from his house in Wallington after waking up to find them going through his things.
When the resident awoke in his bedroom in Burleigh Avenue at about 9pm on Tuesday he saw a crook rifling through his drawers and cupboards.
As he chased him out of the room he noticed another burglar who left the house with his accomplice.
It is believed the suspects got into a car parked in Leechcroft Road.
They drove off turning left into Butter Hill.
Police believe the burglars may have been hanging around earlier in the day.
Officers are keen to speak to anyone who saw the men leave the house or saw anyone in the area acting suspiciously.
Both men were black with one being 5ft 6ins and wearing dark clothing.
There is no additional description available for the second suspect.
The homeowner had gone to bed early after a long day at work.
