An unwitting burglar was caught on a CCTV as he rifled through drawers and stole from a family home.

The burglar broke into a home in Sutton Common Road and took jewellery including a Tag Heuer watch and items from Tiffany, and other items at around 12.15pm on Wednesday.

But the hapless criminal did not bank on the house being fitted with TV and now police are on the look out for his face after the cameras caught several clear shots of his face.

The homeowner, who asked not to be named, said: "We have been burgled before so we installed CCTV. We hoped we would never have to use it but now that it has happened it's good to have a clear shot of the person's face.

"He broke in and the alarm went off but he stayed in there for quite a long time. That's the worst bit, the thought of him being in our house is horrible."

The intruder entered the house alone but appeared to have a getaway driver as he left the house, jumped over a shed and got straight into a silver Ford C-Max that pulled up nearby.

If you recognise the burglar or you have any other information, contact police on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
