A police investigation has been launched after a player for Margate FC appeared to headbutt a Carshalton Athletic player.

Margate defender Charlie Wassmer has been accused of headbutting Carshalton player Lewis Taylor as the sides left the pitch following Saturday's game at Colston Avenue.

Wassmer, whose side thrashed the Robins 6-0, was sent off after the final whistle and has since been fined by his club and suspended for the remainder of the season.

An official statement from Margate FC branded Wassmer's alleged behaviour "unacceptable".
