A fire broke out in an area that has been plagued by arson attacks last night.

Firefighters say it is not clear whether the most recent fire on the Benhill estate was started deliberately or if it was an accident.

A crew from Sutton fire station was called to a bin store beneath a block of flats off Benhill Avenue shortly after midnight.

A spokesman said it was impossible to tell if the blaze was started by someone accidentally throwing away something like a smouldering cigarette butt or whether it was started deliberately.

The area has been hit by a spate of small-scale arson attacks in recent months, with the fire-starters usually targeting bin stores, although cars have been torched too.
