A power cut has hit Cheam causing St Dunstan's School to close down this morning.

The school aims to be open again this afternoon as a generator is being delivered this morning.

It is believed a fault at a substation has caused a power cut affecting a number of properties in the SM3 area, particularly in Ewell Road.

St Dunstan's School, in Anne Boleyn's Walk, has been without power since 2am and headteacher Julia Corby resolved to close the school as parts of it, including the toilets, have been left in complete darkness.

It is also understood the school's fire alarm system is running on battery power and it is feared it could run out.

Cheam Councillor Mary Burstow said: "It will be especially bad for children in year six who will be sitting their Sats exams next week."
