Two people ended up in hospital last night after a car overturned in North Street, Carshalton.

Police were called at 4.51pm on Thursday, May 7, to reports of a crash near the junction with Denmark Road.

London Ambulance Service confirmed a man in his 40s was taken to St Helier Hospital in Carshalton as a priority.

A woman, whose age has not been confirmed, was also taken to St Helier.

Officers cordoned off the busy road when they arrived at the scene, reopening it at 8.30pm once the car had been recovered.

Five fire fighters from Mitcham Fire Station arrived at 4.54pm, leaving shortly after at 5.18pm.

A spokesperson from London Fire Brigade said: “We attended the scene after a report of collision involving two cars.

“No people were trapped but two people were injured.”

Sutton Police and the London Ambulance Service have been unable to confirm how many vehicles were involved in the crash.

Neil Pereira, who lives opposite the spot where the vehicle flipped, said: “I could not see the initial impact because a tree was in the way.

“But when I went downstairs a police officer was removing the driver from the car.

“The Fire Brigade and Ambulance arrived shortly afterwards and pushed the car to the side of the road.”

A London Ambulance Spokesperson said: “We were called out at roughly 4.50pm to a road collision in North Street.

“We sent a single response car and two ambulances.

“A man in his 40s was taken to hospital as a priority, and a woman was also taken to hospital.”

There were traffic problems in the surrounding roads as a result of the incident.

Bus routes 127 and 157 were affected by diversions and delays.
