The Conservative party wrap around advertisement on the Croydon Guardian’s May 7 edition says something important about the Conservative council election campaign. The Conservative campaign is mainly about being negative and attacking other politicians.

The four pager screams at voters "DON’T VOTE LABOUR. DON’T VOTE UKIP."

As a local Labour party we believe that residents are looking for a positive vision for Croydon with sensible, affordable ideas to make our community strong.

We would make sure that Waddon’s streets are swept regularly and would get tough on fly-tipping throughout the Borough.

We would ensure that local drivers, cyclists and pedestrians would benefit from any improvements at the often-congested Fiveways junction on the Purley Way.

Some landlords abuse their powers over tenants. A Croydon Labour council would introduce a licensing scheme for private landlords and letting agents to ensure fair play for tenants and their neighbours.

Council tax increases are, in effect, capped at 2% by national government. A Labour council will go further, freezing council tax until 2016. What is important is to spend what money the council does have wisely. Building an expensive new £ 120 million council HQ whilst cutting services has shown poor judgement by Croydon council’s ruling Conservatives.

The first step to bringing back prosperity to Croydon is having a council that spends local taxpayers’ money on the front line services that taxpayers have paid for, instead of spending residents’ hard-earned money building expensively furnished, glass palaces for a ruling elite.
