It wasn't a cat, but a suspected cat burglar that firefighters rescued from a roof last night.

Police were called to an office building in Kingston Road, Leatherhead, in the early hours of this morning after a report of three people acting suspiciously.

A man was spotted stuck on the roof of the building, next to a car wash.

Firefighters had to be called and used a 13.5m ladder to get him down.

A Leatherhead fire station spokesman said: "He was stuck and one of our firefighters went up using a harness and had to lead him down. It’s a good example of an interagency operation."

A police spokeswoman confirmed a man was arrested after a "suspicious incident" at the property at about 1.40am.

She said: "Three males were reported acting suspiciously on the roof of an office building and officers conducted an area search for them.

"The man was arrested at around 3am the same morning. The man remains in police custody at this time."
