The Hulk, Danger Mouse, Miss Piggy and fellow superheroes are getting ready to climb Mount Snowdon.

Beneath their superhero guises, you will find real people from an extended family who are doing it in memory of a beloved relative who lost her battle with cancer.

The Princess Alice Hospice cared for Mary Clements before her death on October 29 after lung cancer spread to her brain.

Her two sons are now preparing to climb the mountain with one of their girlfriends, five cousins, a cousin’s husband and another cousin’s partner in aid of the hospice.

Mark Clements, 22, who will dress as superhero Green Lantern, said: "They couldn't have done a finer job.

"So we would like to help them any way we can, and decided that climbing Mount Snowdon dressed as superheroes might be a way to raise some money for them.

"In the weeks leading up to the climb my cousins and I will be uploading photos of us 'training’ almost Rocky style and trying to keep people updated on our progress."

When asked what his mother would have thought of the challenge, he said: "She would have thought it was hilarious. She would have probably joined us at the top for a drink."

The charity walk up the highest peak in Wales, which stretches 3,560ft into the sky, will take place on Saturday, July 12. The superheroes include Danger Mouse’s assistant Penfold, another Green Lantern, Hermit, Super Ted and Spotty.

Their fundraising page said: "It is often cold, foggy and steep on the ascent and despite these conditions we will aim to complete this tough climb within six hours up and down.

"To make things a little more interesting, and because Mary liked nothing more than a good old giggle and nothing would make her laugh more than the 10 of us looking a bit silly, we will be completing this six-hour mountain climb dressed as SUPERHEROES!"
