A gang of girls started a fire in the middle of the town centre in broad daylight - but did not bargain on getting caught on CCTV.
Town centre cameras caught the group of three girls setting light to a pile of rubbish near a treet outside the Grapes pub in Sutton High Street at 7.30pm on Friday, May 9.
The images show the girls gather around the tree. One girl sets a bag of rubbish alight and another girl fans the flames to make them bigger.
The girls leave the scene only to return moments later when the fire has taken hold.
PC Louisa Patel, of Sutton Central Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: "There were lots of people in the area at the time and there is always a danger that such incidents, however minor they may appear at the time, can quickly become very serious with the risk of injury or even loss of life."
Police believe the girls are aged 14 to 17-years-old.
There were other people in the area at the time and police are keen to hear from anyone who saw the incident or recognises the girls from the pictures.
If you have information you can call police on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
