A serial sex attacker who targeted girls as young as 12 in Sutton parks has been jailed for eight years.

Croydon man Dean Willett, 26, sexually assaulted three girls and a woman in a spate of attacks in Beddington Park and Roundshaw Downs between May and August last year.

Willett was caught after police linked four attacks and launched a manhunt that culminated when Willett was spotted on CCTV images taken as he boarded a bus in September.

Willett assaulted a 12-year-old girl as she walked through an alleyway leading to Meller Close near Beddington Park on Sunday, May 12.

He grabbed the girl by the wrist and said "shhh - come with me", but the girl managed to get away and fled to safety.

Sutton Guardian: Police search the alley where Willett is alleged to have assaulted a girl

A police officer searches the alley near Meller Close

Days later he assaulted a 16-year-old girl who was playing with her brother on Roundshaw Downs. The girl had gone to search for her boomerang in bushes when Willett approached her and groped her breasts.

He then carried the teenager along a path and sexually assaulted her, he ran off when the girl's brother came over.

Willett then attacked a 15-year-old girl who was walking her dog in Beddington Park on Thursday, August 29. The girl managed to break free and ran off.

His final offence came on August 30 when he approached a 47-year-old woman as she walked her two dogs on Roundshaw Downs. He asked her "do you want to have some fun?". The woman told him to go away but he grabbed her from behind and sexually assaulted her.

The victim tried to push him off but he punched her in the face, knocking her unconscious and causing two of her teeth to fall out.

Detective Constable Clare Southcott, from the sexual offences, exploitation and child abuse command, said: "I would like to thank the victims for their incredible bravery in coming forward and providing us with valuable evidence to which helped to bring Willett to justice today.

"Willett is a determined sexual predator who targeted his victims whilst they went about their day-to-day business. I cannot rule out the possibility that there could be other victims out there who have not come forward.

"I would hope that Willett's successful prosecution and jail term will give anyone who may be worried about coming forward the confidence to do so. I would like to reassure them that they will be treated with the utmost sensitivity and specially trained detectives are on hand to speak to them."

Willett admitted five counts of sexual assault and one of grievous bodily harm at Croydon Crown Court in February and was sentenced to eight years in jail at the same court this morning. He will be on the sex offenders register for life.

It was not just this young man that was sentenced on Friday was it. Through your newspaper you sentenced his whole family who are trying to cope with what has happened. This is going to affect them and the rest of their lives. Your reports may be legal but they are totally damaging. His family have done nothing wrong and have to endure the embarrassment and the vile remarks of others. How do they get on with their lives. No consideration or counselling for them! And just as they are coming to terms with what has happened the week will be re - lived when your paper comes out. It's wrong!

How can it be wrong to report a criminal sentence? This man has damaged many people's lives and put the local community in fear whilst he was walking the streets committing these vile crimes. His victims may never get over their ordeal. You may not be able to pick your family but I am sure you will cope in your own way.

You are absolutely right G_Whiz. The family can move. He has been found guilty of sexual assault on CHILDREN bexxy70. I'd want to know about him and his whereabouts when he's released. So I will have half a chance of protecting my grandchildren.

well, then that is their issue to deal with- and everyone handles things differently. but no matter how hard it is on the family of the attacker, the public need to know about people like this. what if it was one of your family members that was attacked by this guy or someone like him? would you still have much sympathy left over for his family? these people who are letting narrow minded critics make them feel bad need to put themselves in the shoes of those attacked- or the families of those attacked. suddenly, i think concern for themselves would fade.

Targeting children and physically attacking a woman at such force her teeth fell out... I'm glad I know his name and what he looks like! I know it's not his families fault he did it, but he is a massive threat to people of all ages and also a lot of local people were very concerned when these attacks took place and have a right to know he is off the streets and when he will be back on them as well!

People like him aren't just born, they're RAISED - or rather DRAGGED up. Sympathy for the people who created him and taught him no values? I don't THINK so. Sympathy for his victims? YES.

As for your claim that the papers have exaggerated this story: I see only COLD HARD FACTS. No emotive, misleading language. When a paper lies, they get SUED. But go ahead. Show us what The Willet's are made of: Demanding special treatment. Blaming others who are blameless for your own serious faults. The pathology clearly runs in your family. And you very obviously ARE family - no one else would sympathise with that child abusing paedo and his kin.

Paedophiles should get the DEATH PENALTY.
