Mystery surrounds an advert published on this website inviting people to visit High Down prison tonight.
The advert, which was first spotted yesterday, says "Get to know your local prison. Who works in a place like this?"
It continues: "Come and meet some of the staff who work at HMP High Down." and says there will be an event at the prison tonight (Tuesday, June 17) from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
But when readers click onto a link within the advert which says "click here to find out more" they are simply taken to High Down’s web page within the Ministry of Justice’s (MoJ) website - which gives no details about the event.
When asked whether tonight’s event is to recruit prison officers for High Down, in Banstead, or to inform people about what happens inside the prison, an MoJ spokesman said: "An informative open evening is being held for a limited number in the community.
"This is not the first time this has happened.
"Those who wanted to come had to book in advance."
But it remains unclear why the prison is advertising an event where all the places have already been allocated and exactly how and where the event was originally publicised.
Do you know more? Are you attending tonight's event?
