Paralympic legend David Weir is attending a curry evening before heading off to the Commonwealth Games this summer.

The fundraiser, called the Commonwealth Curry, includes a champagne reception, dinner, auctions and a raffle at Le Raj restaurant in Fir Tree Road, Epsom Downs, on Thursday, June 26.

The evening is being held in aid of the Weir Archer Academy, which provides athlete and coaching support for schools, clubs and coaches.

Weir said: "My coach Jenny Archer and I have a long term vision for the Weir Archer Academy which is to inspire the next generation of Paralympians.

"The Commonwealth Curry which is being generously supported by Penta Consulting and Le Raj is the Academy’s first high profile fundraiser.

"Everyone who gets involved will be helping the next generation of disabled youngsters to fulfil their sporting potential by taking part in competitions, benefiting from bespoke racing chairs, enjoying expert coaching and training in several different sports and ultimately compete at the highest level."

Enam Ali, founder of the restaurant, said: "We are proud to be associated with Penta Consulting and Weir Archer Academy to host the Commonwealth Curry event on Le Raj 25th anniversary."

Paul Clark, chairman of the academy and CEO of Penta Consulting, said: "We have got together with the award-winning Le Raj to organise the Commonwealth Curry when we can raise funds through a live and silent auction of unique sporting memorabilia as well as wish David Weir CBE luck at the Games in July."
