A thriving pub could be converted into an Asda supermarket.

Asda has revealed plans to open a mini-supermarket on the site of the Woodstock pub at the junction of Stonecot Hill and Sutton Common Road.

If approved by the council and the development goes ahead, the store would bring up to 40 jobs to the area and feature a small car park. Asda said it aims to regenerate the area around the shop as well.

Doug Wilson, head of UK property communications for Asda said: "These exciting plans will bring local people more choice and low prices on their doorstep. This is about investment, regeneration and encouraging people to shop more locally and the forty jobs will be welcome. I would encourage people to come along to the exhibition and give us their views on the plans."

The supermarket giant is holding an exhibition during which people will be able to look at the plans at the Assembly Hall in Tudor Drive, Morden, on Thursday, July, 3 between 3pm and 7pm.
