A 16-year-old man has been arrested after being found with a potentially lethal 10in blade.

Sutton PCSO’s Dale Chen and Steve Higgins were on cycle patrol yesterday, when they approached three youths in Reigate Avenue Playing Fields, Sutton.

When the group spotted the officers, two of them ran away and the other made off on a bicycle.

One of the youths was seen throwing a bag over a barbed wire fence bordering the park.

Sutton Police Crime Squad officers were on the scene quickly after the PCSO’s called for assistance.

When the officers recovered the bag they found the 10in knife inside.

The youth was later arrested for possession of an offensive weapon, and has been bailed to return to Sutton Police station pending further enquiries.
