A pensioner has appeared in court charged with making thousands of indecent photographs of children, distributing and possessing them and publishing child sex abuse stories.

George Wright, 73, of Roundwood View, in Banstead, appeared at South East Surrey Magistrates' Court today, July 4, charged with 14 offences.

He is accused of making and possessing more than 20,000 indecent photographs of children, distributing more than 100 indecent photographs of children, and publishing eight emails containing child sex abuse stories as attachments.

The photographs allegedly produced range in seriousness from Category A to C under the Protection of Children Act.

The offences were alleged to have been committed between March and September last year in Banstead.

Balding Mr Wright appeared at court today in a suit and tie and clean-shaven, aided by a walking stick.

He did not enter a plea to the charges and the bench refused jurisdiction to consider his case.

Mr Wright is now due to appear at Guildford Crown Court later this month for a preliminary hearing.

He is on unconditional bail.
