An MP was blown away by young scientists from the borough's schools.

Sutton and Cheam MP Paul Burstow visited Sutton Grammar School to have a look at the Big Bang Science Fair, which brought schools from all over Sutton together to celebrate science.

Mr Burstow attended the event with pupils from Glenthorne, Greenshaw, St Philomena's, Nonsuch and Wilson's high schools.

He said: "The Big Bang Science Fair does what it says on the tin.

"Bangs, explosions, squeaks and blazing Bunsen burners all made for a great day.

"It was fantastic to see how much the students were getting out of the fair, and the great work by the companies that took part, like Subsea7 and the Institute for Cancer Research.

"As I saw at the event, Sutton is the home of the next generation of engineers and scientists, and no small part is played by their teachers.

"Well done to all the prize winners. There was a real buzz at the event and I had an excellent time and I am looking forward to next year already."
